Should I get my makeup or hair professionally done for my engagement session?

This is completely up to you!  There are some benefits to getting your hair & makeup done professionally:

• Makeup looks different on-camera than in-person, and a professional makeup artist will know how much makeup you’ll need to show well on camera and help you look your best!
• It’s a great trial run for your wedding day! You can find out what works/what doesn’t, and make changes before your wedding.

That said, if you feel more “you” by doing your own hair & makeup – stick with that!  The key is to be comfortable!

Should we bring props?

It’s always great to showcase the uniqueness of your relationship!  If there are certain items that reflect something about you guys or your story that you would like to incorporate into your photos, bring them!  These could include pets, coffee mugs, sports equipment, bicycles, rowboats, old cars, airplanes etc.!  If you have any fun signs or other props for a great “save the date” shot, bring those as well.  It’s completely up to you!

Is there anything else we should bring?

If it is a warmer or windy day, suggestions include bringing powder to help eliminate any shine on the skin, lipstick, and hairspray for any flyaway hairs.  If it is a colder day, you may want to bring a warmer layer to wear in between shots as we walk.  Blankets also work well as props and keeping warm in between shots in winter sessions!  If it looks like rain, throw a cute umbrella in – they make for great props!

 

If you do bring a pet, we highly recommend bringing along a friend or family member who can take care of them when their moment in the spotlight is over.  This person can also help with carrying jackets, other props, etc.  Be ready to have some fun – engagement sessions are a blast!
