FAQ, Engagement Sessions | Photography

Do you recommend an engagement session?

Absolutely!  The engagement session is a great way for us to get to know each other before your big day.  It’s important that I can get to know you as a couple so that you are comfortable with my style of shooting – that way your wedding images will truly reflect your relationship & unique personalities!  Engagement sessions also allow for creative options for Save-the-Dates.

Your engagement session should be fun, relaxing, and all about YOU!  We want to showcase your relationship and take as many fun photos of the two of you interacting as possible (along with those beautiful smiling posed shots, of course!)  Sometimes couples, or one of you more than the other, may feel nervous about being in front of the camera.  Let me put you at ease – the session will be a very low pressure and fun time!  The engagement session is also the PERFECT opportunity to practice for your wedding day – to let all those nerves go and just be YOU as we interact!

What should we wear?

Clothing should be comfortable and reflect who you are!  Typically, couples coordinate colors, tones, or styles with each other and the setting that they have chosen.  For example, sessions in the park or with more natural backdrops work great with neutral colors including tans, blues, greens, etc.  Have something fun and edgy to wear downtown?  Go for it!  Anything you feel confident in will work great for me!

Here are a few tips I like to share when you’re thinking about what to wear for your session:

  • Avoid being too matchy-matchy.  You’ll want what you wear to complement each other, but not copy!
  • Solid colored clothing items are great, but if you want to bring in a pattern, have only one person wearing the pattern.
  • Wear what you feel comfortable in!  If you’re not comfortable in what you’re wearing, your photos won’t look “natural” to you.
  • If you want to wear heels, you might want to bring flats that you can be more comfortable in while walking in-between shots.
  • Try on everything a few days before the session.  You’ll want to make sure your clothes fit correctly and you don’t have distractions from poor fitting or baggy clothing, loose straps, or wrinkles.
  • Feel free to bring an outfit change (most couples do one casual look and one dressy look).  It’s always good to switch things up a bit and if we change locations, it will essentially be like you had two photoshoots.
