Coon Rapids | Winter Portrait Session

Here in Minnesota we do two things well: snow and hockey.  This session was the perfect combination of the two!  These amazing sisters embraced the cold and bundled up for a snowy December session to capture both their sweet and sporty selves!  We have had the pleasure of photographing this family in the past, and they are incredible to work with!  When they asked to incorporate the girl’s hockey gear, we were all for it!  The short season of having your kids in sports together doesn’t last long and we love capturing that life-stage to freeze time for families to remember forever!

Speaking of freezing, this day was COLD.  Thankfully, this location has a warm building to use for outfit changes just steps away from where these shots were taken so that we were able to utilize every minute of this short but sweet session!  We have found that our mini sessions work perfectly for winter sessions with kids – they are just long enough to capture a few portraits but not so long that everyone freezes!  We can also avoid the pink noses and watery eyes that our lovely weather brings.  These girls NAILED this session and were troopers in the cold!

We also love the variety of outfits that winter sessions bring!  Layers are always great for photos and we love that the girls also brought hats and mittens to throw in a different look with their sweaters as well!  Any time you can accessorize your outfits, it allows for a huge variety in the shots you get without missing out on shooting time that a whole outfit change requires.  For winter sessions, we also recommend bringing along blankets or warm coats to wear in between shots.  Bonus: if the coats coordinate with your outfits, you can throw them in for a shot or two as well!
