When you think of a wedding venue in Minnesota, you typically think of a mansion, a farm, or a downtown event space. When Matt Lien asked that I second shoot with him at Uppercut Boxing Gym I was surprised at first but came to find that this venue is AMAZING for hosting weddings! It is unique and urban with a warehouse feel and is perfectly situated in the heart of Minneapolis. This day was a blast! Starting out with the guys at their nearby apartment, I met the couple’s cat while I photographed the details. The pops of color in this wedding were absolutely amazing and paired perfectly with the warehouse backdrops of the venue!
We went down to the Nicollet-Boom Island Bridge for the first look and the colors were absolutely stunning. There really is no place like downtown Minneapolis for photos – it provides the perfect combination of urban and nature. You can literally have the Minneapolis skyline in the background and turn around and it’s as if you transported to the center of a wooded forest. You can stroll the streets of St. Anthony Main and just a short walk later photograph couples next to a waterfall. If you want a piece of iconic Minneapolis in your photos, take a stroll down the Stone Arch Bridge for the perfect city backdrop.
As the day continued at Uppercut, there were so many sweet candid moments with all of the set-up and the guests arriving and it was great to be able to take my time and capture it all as it happened. The reception was catered by Gastrotruck Catering and the food was incredible! The speeches and dances were a blast and the night was topped off by a special guest-appearance by the University of Minnesota’s very own Goldy the Gopher!
