Ham Lake | Winter Family Portrait Session

It’s one of our favorite times of year!  Christmas card season!  It’s the perfect time for a mini family session and with our quick turn-around time, we love delivering photos to our families with enough time to spare so that they are able to order prints for their Christmas cards, receive them back AND mail them out to friends and family before Christmas arrives!  One of our family’s favorite traditions is to collect all of the Christmas cards we receive (yes, we keep them all!) and look back through them as the years go by.  It is amazing to watch families grow!

We typically try to book Christmas-card mini sessions in late November or early December hoping for a fresh blanket of snow.  Minnesota winters can be unpredictable so we usually schedule a second day to use as a back-up date in case the weather does not cooperate.  We watch the weather closely to be sure the temps don’t drop too low and if snow is in the forecast we hope for lightly falling flakes for the session!

Some of our favorite things about this session:

  • The family: the Snyders are one of our favorite families ever!  We go way back – like, before our kids and when theirs were just babies – back.  It has been so much fun to watch their kids grow up into the beautiful tweens and teens that they are today!
  • The outfits: we cannot get enough of the color RED with our snowy sessions!  The pop of color against the white backdrop and the textures they incorporated were perfect!  Even the pups came dressed in their coziest sweaters!
  • The props: incorporating this family’s favorite pass-time was essential!  The Snyders are all about skiing!!!  They are incredibly talented and when they aren’t on the soccer fields in the summertime you can find them hitting the slopes to ski!
