Stillwater has been one of our favorite locations to photograph family sessions. Not only do we love its wide variety in brick and natural backdrops, but we also love the historic charm of the town itself tucked alongside the St. Croix River. It is the perfect place to capture portraits, and we couldn’t wait to connect with Paula’s beautiful family for photos as well as for Ben’s senior portraits!
We began the session by strolling the streets together, pausing at all of our favorite backdrops. We absolutely love the green ivy that grows along so many of the buildings downtown, and now that the autumn season is upon us, we are getting a gorgeous sneak peek of some fall colors! Ben plays on his school’s golf team, so we were sure to capture portraits of him with his clubs, and we finished out their session with a few photos on the bridge. Whenever we book portrait sessions, we are always watching the radar to be sure we aren’t surprised by a pop up shower. We were so thankful for Paula’s family’s flexibility in scheduling as we moved the session up by a few hours to avoid the rain. It ended up being perfect timing as it began to sprinkle just as we finished!
Exploring Stillwater for sessions has been so much fun, and we feel like we have only scratched the surface on all its shopping, entertainment, and dining options. We discovered that Paula’s family shares our love for Italian food and a good steak, so we asked if she had any recommendations for places to eat. They highly recommended LoLo American Kitchen noting that their Prime Hanger Steak is amazing! We will definitely need to add this to our must-do list and check it out for a date night sometime soon!
