Loring Park | Fall Engagement

Loring Park is one of our favorite parts of Minneapolis.  We can’t get enough of this area, especially when everything is in bloom.  September has been warm and beautiful and we are soaking up every bit of sunshine this fall has to give!  This bright and sunny day was perfect for Tayler and Alex’s engagement session.  They arrived in outfits coordinated to perfection with the PERFECT colors and tones for this area!  We loved their classy fall look and Tayler’s touch of elegance in her accessories.  We scheduled their session mid-day over their lunch hours and couldn’t wait to begin!

Typically, photographers tend to avoid harsh mid-day light but we have found that by using a few key techniques and strategies we are able to photograph at any time of the day no matter what the weather throws at us!  For example, when shooting on bright, sunny days, we use the edge of shaded areas to allow for just enough light to fill our subjects while still avoiding too much sunlight shining directly on our subjects.  If direct sunlight is impossible to avoid, we backlight our subjects so that the light is coming from behind them.  This not only creates beautiful rim lighting, it also prevents squinting eyes and shadows on faces.

One of the many reasons we love this area is that it provides unique spaces to tuck couples between buildings which allows for shade as well as great fill light bouncing between buildings.  As an added bonus, we get to use a huge variety in textured backdrops.  We finished up among the brick and stone and ended the session with a few shots with the Berger Dandelion Fountain – another beautiful backdrop for a stunning couple!  These two are so sweet together and we are beyond excited for their summer wedding at the Lafayette Club in Minnetonka Beach!
